CAN HE BE STOPPED?

Bobby Pierce is on another historic run.

Since winning The Dream at Eldora Speedway, the two-time and reigning World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion has won six straight World of Outlaws events.

If he wins a seventh, it would be a new Series record.

This is the second time Pierce has won six straight races with the World of Outlaws. He and Darrell Lanigan are the only two to have accomplished the rare feat.

The details:

  • Pierce's six straight wins came at six different tracks – 141 Speedway, Ogilvie Raceway, I-94 emr Speedway, River Cities Speedway, Nodak Speedway, and Norman County Raceway.
  • His chance for a seventh straight World of Outlaws win will come at Stateline Speedway on Wednesday, July 8.
  • Pierce has 16 wins already this season and holds a 76-point lead over Nick Hoffman.

After three months of being out of a car due to a back injury, the "Concrete Kid" returned to Victory Lane in his first race back.

Drake Troutman's next move in the dirt Late Model world was long in the making.

Jimmy Phelps, the promoter of Weedsport Speedway, rolled his No. 98H 358 Modified out of the shop on the track's property and wheeled it to Victory Lane Tuesday night.

RING THE BELLE

In an economic climate where race tracks are closing down or being sold across the country, there's finally some good news.

  • Six years after its last race, Belle-Clair Fairgrounds Park Speedway is reopening this year with its first race set for Aug. 1.
  • The track cost $13.9 million to rebuild. The county allocated another $15.2 million to improve the fairgrounds.
  • WM Marketing, the owners of the nearby World Wide Technology Raceway will operate it.
