WHAT JUST HAPPENED?
As the World of Outlaws Late Model Series field rolled out for the first Feature of the weekend at Mansfield Speedway, the surprise announcement was made that the Niss family had stepped up to pay $100,000 to the winner.
Then, the next night – halfway through the program – they decided, how about another $100,000?
The details:
Dan Niss and his wife are business owners and philanthropists in Mansfield, OH.
According to track owner Matt Tifft, it was their first time at a dirt race, and they wanted to help contribute to the track's first big event since reopening.
Already boasting the biggest purse of the season for the World of Outlaws Late Models, the event ended up paying out nearly $500,000 across the two nights.
Duck River Speedway Park, in Wheel, Tenn., needs a new owner. After five years of running the track, Russell Boothe is ready to hand it off to the next ambitious promoter.
The 1/4-mile track, built on a 40-acre property, was founded in 1973.
The track has been a staple for Late Model racing and has been a regular on the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series schedule since 2023.
The track's weekly program includes Late Models, Stock Cars, Modifieds, and Dwarf cars.
