WHAT WERE YOU DOING AT 15?
At 15 years old, in only his third 410 Sprint Car start with NARC King of the West Sprint Cars, Jett Barnes beat a stout field of West Coast competitors to score his first major win in the division.
He made his name known during the Chili Bowl Nationals early this year, when he was still 14, finishing on the podium during his prelim night and making the A-Main. Now, he's making waves with Sprint Cars.
The details:
The young Californian teamed up with Jason Meyer Racing this year to pilot their No. 14 car in various races. The initial deal was to run four 360 Sprint Car races. After multiple victories, that evolved into a limited 410 Sprint Car schedule.
Barnes started on the pole of the NARC race at Douglas County Dirt Track and led all 30 laps of the race, beating the likes of Justin Sanders, Tim Kaeding, and James McFadden.
When Corey Day is piloting the team's No. 14 Sprint Car, Barnes will still travel and work with the team to continue his development.
Action Track USA is facing pressure from local residents, who have complained about "dust and noise" from the track. But the racing community has stepped in to show its support.
The track was sued at the end of last year for dust and won that case. But it has become a talking point with the Borough of Kutztown again.
Track Promoter Rich Tobias stated the track is a leading revenue generator for the fairgrounds.
His advice to those that want to speak up for the track: "Act respectful, act professional. Be intelligent. Don't engage in destructive conversation."
